Vision

The Stephen Wise Free Synagogue is committed to providing comprehensive and continuing education for both children and adults in Jewish history, observance, beliefs, and culture and the Hebrew language. The congregation reflects the strength of its highly diverse membership, bonded by the common interests of cherishing the Jewish faith, traditions, and practice of Reform Judaism and supporting the people and the state of Israel.

In keeping with the congregation’s historical foundations, the religious and secular equality of all is reflected in the synagogue's leadership, participation, and teachings. The synagogue embraces the prophetic ideal of freedom of pulpit and pew, school and society. Its seats shall never be owned by or assigned to individual members on a financial or any other basis.

The congregation relies on the vigorous participation of its members in synagogue life, including worship, programs, projects, and committees and is committed to the precept of tikkum olam through meaningful social service and social action in the local community and beyond. The clergy, professional staff, and lay leadership collaborate in the conduct of synagogue functions in a constructive and collegial alliance, with respect for varied points of view. All segments of the synagogue community prize comprehensive and open communication and strive to keep one another fully informed about issues, policies, and events.

The synagogue is committed to membership growth to a size that will further enhance its community on a foundation of financial stability and strength. The congregation reaches out to welcome unaffiliated Jews, interfaith partners, and all who choose to be part of our inclusive and spiritually enriching community.
