ListenPsalm 98: Zamru L'Adonai B'chinor Folk This is the psalm that features the words for the title of this learning CD in it. Kol Zimra means to use your voice to sing. Zamru l'Adonai B'chinor means we sing to God on the violin. This prayer often features a violin solo because the Hebrew word for violin is Kinnor. The violin was named after the ancient stringed instrument from the Temple, which probably resembled a lyre. This psalm also features references to other musical instruments that we are told to praise God with. Some might use this psalm as well as Psalm 150 as an argument against the Orthodox commandment to not use musical instruments on Shabbat. Jan 01, 2005 |
