2’s Program
At
the beginning of the 2’s program, our emphasis is on the child’s transition
from the home environment to school. Working closely with
families, and using a phase-in schedule, we work to gain the child’s
trust and create a nurturing environment. In addition to separation,
learning to be part of a community is the work of the two-year-olds.
During this year learning occurs in a hands-on manner through the use
of sensory
materials and experiences. Among the tools of play in the classrooms
are sand, water, clay, play dough, puzzles, table games, manipulative
toys, dramatic play props, science equipment, books, paint, paper, and
markers. Music and cooking are regular activities and are incorporated
into the celebration of Jewish holidays. The 2’s program meets from 9:10am
to 12:45pm, two or three days per week. Lunch is provided by each family
and served in the classrooms.
