Musical Mitzvah

Are you itching to sing or perform an instrument in a concert? Do you want to receive accolades from a raving group of your biggest fans? And as a bonus, would you like your performance to be chalked up as a good deed?!

Join the Musical Mitzvah tour featuring a very enthusiastic group of members and non-members from Stephen Wise Free Synagogue. We literally take our music to the streets, visiting the sick and the elderly on a yearly musical tour with appearances scheduled through our Center for Values and Community Service.

We sing a large number of old popular favorites that are sure to inspire our audiences to participate in singing, clapping, and even dancing!  Everything from the Yiddish classics like "My Yiddishe Mama" and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game (in Yiddish)" to memorable secular hits like "Heart of My Heart" and "Swanee". During our holiday visits after the High Holidays and around Chanukah, Purim, Passover, and Shavuot, we spice up our performances with participatory Jewish melodies and medleys related to relevant holiday music.

Choristers and soloists of all levels of ability are encouraged to join us. No Hebrew knowledge or musical background is required! For the Musical Mitzvah tour, it is the power of your enthusiasm, smile, and joyful spirit that makes the biggest difference.

If you are interested in joining us for rehearsals or performances, please fill out this form or contact the Musical Mitzvah coordinator, Michael Greenstein. For assistance over the phone, contact Cantor Singer at (212) 877-4050 x 237.
