Pray at Home
"How goodly are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel!"
While we at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue are big on encouraging the congregation to gather for services in our synagogue sanctuary, as the words of our prayer of welcome, Ma Tovu imply, no matter whether we are in a temporary place like a tent or a more permanent dwelling place like a Mishkan, we are all capable of creating sacred space regardless of where we pray. Whether at a home, in the park, on a train, or at the beach, alone or with a small minyan of friends, there is always the potential to create a goodly space through the power of prayer.
We encourage everyone to try something new to create a personal practice of Judaism on some modest level. While the synagogue is an important place to connect to the fullness of our diverse and community, learning to practice Judaism at home is a valuable key to creating and sustaining a sense of Jewish identity on both a personal and family level.
Please use this page and the resources we continue to post to it as a helpful guide to develop your own personal practice. We look forward to seeing you at services and we look forward to hearing you enjoy your Jewish journey at home with your family and friends.
