Jewish Favorites with... Ben Kern

Ben Kern joined Stephen Wise this summer as our teen programming associate. Originally from Mahwah, New Jersey, Ben graduated from Rutgers University. As a URJ Camp Leadership & Synagogue Professional fellow, he will spend three months of the year at URJ Eisner Camp and the school year at Stephen Wise teaching seventh graders, running teen programming, leading volunteer opportunities, and recruiting campers.

Best Jewish Camp Memory

At the end of each summer, all of Eisner Camp gathers around the lake for Havdalah and a closing acoustic song session. I love how we use Havdalah to mark both the end of Shabbat and the end of another amazing summer.

Favorite Jewish Camp Song

“Over the Rafters,” a URJ Eisner Camp classic with lyrics that come from plaques made in the 1950s-1980s.

Jewish Carbohydrate of Choice

There are so many, but definitely a good challah!

Jews I Look Up To

My wonderful parents are my Jewish role models! They've always worked to instill me with Jewish values.

Most Meaningful Jewish Tradition

My family’s Yom Kippur break fast. It’s always lots of fun and we always have an incredible spread!
