Waiting on the World to Change

What can we do when we are overcome with anticipation and anxiety? In this sermon, Rabbi Diana Fersko considers lessons from the story of Noah. “If you’re waiting for the world to change, change it. That’s what Noah teaches, the importance of the deed,” she says. Yet respite is critical to existence. “Noah teaches that while we may be consumed by doing, waiting, trying, and hurrying, it’s ok to make life easier for ourselves.” “Shabbat is like an ark in time, housing us, containing us, protecting us, and even sometimes stopping us from doing hard work.”
